The client required assistance in forming a temporary legal team whilst they assembled a team of suitably-qualified individuals. JRT was able to provide a full-time junior lawyer for a fixed period on an in-house placement with a JRT director and founder available for consultation, allowing the client time to consider applicants for the permanent position.

JRT Partnership developed a retainer for the immediate provision of a junior lawyer who was available to work in-house 5 days a week.
The lawyer also has the flexibility to work from the JRT offices where appropriate.
The client may instruct the lawyer directly.
The lawyer provides regular reports to the client, to assist with scoping the new position.

Mentoring Services For General Counsel - Firm Based

The client is a medical research institute with a small in-house legal team. The client’s general counsel left the institute and rather than going to the expense of employing a new experienced general counsel, the institute wanted to promote from within.

The client approached us looking for mentoring services from a very senior lawyer to assist in-house counsel to rise to the role of general counsel.
JRT Partnership developed a retainer for the immediate provision of a director who is available at call.
The JRT director has regular scheduled meetings with general counsel as well as being available by phone or email to discuss issues as they arise.

Outsourced Junior Lawyer Services - Firm Based

The client required a junior lawyer to support the business units with their third party agreements. The client did not want to go to the expense of hiring, training and mentoring a new staff member. JRT offered the following solution:

The immediate provision of a junior lawyer, who can be available at call;
The lawyer to be based in the JRT Partnership office and available to attend the client’s office as required;
The client instructs the first-year lawyer directly;
The lawyer to remain under the supervision of JRT Partnership even when working at the client’s office;
Access to a JRT Partnership director for the set-up of the day-to-day relationship and provision of ongoing supervision, review and mentoring of the first-year lawyer;
Ongoing access to the director, who maintains a working knowledge of the client’s files;
The back-up of another lawyer and director to cover for holidays, illnesses etc.

The lawyer was based in our office but available to attend the client’s office as required.
The lawyer remained under the supervision of JRT Partnership even when working at the client’s office.
We received instructions from several different business units, including the CEO, as we held knowledge of all aspects of the business.
We developed an understanding of the client’s individual reporting preferences, business activities and industry sector which assisted with adding value as the relationship grew.
When the main lawyer or director was on annual leave we provided back-up with another lawyer or director who also had working knowledge of the client and their needs.
The retainer covered the day-to-day legal requirements and issues of the client.
When a larger issue arose, JRT would scope that work out of retainer. Out-of-scope matters received the same level of service as a retainer matter.

The client is a new organisation that required an interim director to manage their large in-house legal team.

The client approached JRT Partnership to provide a very senior lawyer on secondment for a period of time while the search for a permanent director was undertaken.
We provided a director and a senior solicitor to attend the client's premises on secondment.
The director was involved in the policy and management of the organisation as well as being part of the interview panel for the permanent position.
The senior solicitor took instructions directly from the client.
